The Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) is excited to announce Year 7 of the Leadership Residency Program. This program engages novice healthcare leaders in a one-year track of education and skill development to ensure success as a leader.

Application Deadline: June 30, 2022
RWHC Members may submit multiple applications. Class size is limited, so register early as the class will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Target Audience:
Novice leaders/supervisors/managers/directors/team leads/charge nurses with less than one year of experience in a leadership role. The commitment is for the full year of the program.

How to Apply:

Step 1: Your application starts with completion of our APPLICATION Part I.

Step 2: Once step one is submitted, you will receive an automated email with a link to Part II of the application process where you will share more information about your goals for the course. Both Part I and Part II must be submitted in order for your application to be processed.

Step 3: To understand your commitment to the program, the applicant’s supervisor and CEO must review the program commitments.

Step 4: Program facilitators will review all complete applications and send a residency acceptance determination no later than July 15, 2022.

Step 5: The non-refundable registration fee of $2,375 will be billed to your organization once the application is accepted.

Location and Dates:
The in-person modules will be held at the RWHC Office & Training Center in Sauk City (directions to RWHC).

  • Session 1: Wednesday, October 12 and Thursday, October 13, 2022
  • Session 2: Thursday, December 8 and Friday, December 9, 2022
  • Session 3: Wednesday, February 8 and Thursday, February 9, 2023
  • Session 4: Wednesday, April 12 and Thursday, April 13, 2023
  • Session 5: Tuesday, May 30 and Wednesday, May 31, 2023
  • Session 6: Tuesday, August 8 and Wednesday, August 9, 2023

The first day of each session is held from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the second day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Click here for details of the program.


Jo Anne Preston

Jo Anne Preston is the Workforce and Organizational Development Senior Manager at the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative, where she brings over four decades of her healthcare leadership experience to designing and delivering leadership and employee education for rural healthcare throughout Wisconsin and the United States. She has a M.S. in Educational Psychology/Community Counseling from Eastern Illinois University, is the author of Lead the Way in Five Minutes a Day: Sparking High Performance in Yourself and Your Team, and writes a monthly leadership blog., 608-644-3261

Cella Janisch-Hartline

Cella Janisch-Hartline, RN, BSN, PCC Certified Professional Coach, is the Nursing Leadership Senior Manager for Rural WI Health Cooperative (RWHC). Cella brings her experience from over 40 years in various rural healthcare leadership positions to her work as she combines her passion for nursing, leadership, coaching and teaching. Named the 2018 Outstanding Educator through the National Rural Health Association, she engages healthcare participants across the country with her humorous, action-oriented and compassionate approach., 608-644-3235

Erin Smital

Erin Smital, RN, is the Nursing Professional Development Educator, Nurse Residency Coordinator and Lean Residency Coordinator at the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. Along with being an RN, Erin brings forward years of experience in various leadership roles in and out of healthcare. In addition to developing and presenting numerous leadership and nursing focused workshops, she also provides training in de-escalation as a Certified Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Instructor., 608-643-1066

Corrie Searles, MPT, is an Adjunct Instructor with the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative, having supported the Leadership Residency Program each year since its inception. With her 20+ years of experience in leadership both in and out of health care, her past roles have included leadership for therapy teams in hospitals, long term care, outpatient, and home health, as well as Cardiac Rehab, Occupational Health, Fitness Centers, and Stress Testing. Corrie has extensive experience in continuous improvement methodology and a passion for leadership development training. She has a Master’s in Physical Therapy, a Certificate in Organizational Leadership, and a Certificate in Customer Service & Leadership training with Achieve Global. She is certified to teach Crucial Conversations through Vital Smarts in addition to being a certified coach for Shift Positive 360.
