Sarah Ewers, BSN, RN, is the Nursing Clinical Development Educator for Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. Sarah earned her Bachelor in Science of Nursing through Viterbo University, and continues to have a passion to hold herself accountable for multiple hours of continuing education. She brings a wealth of experience in providing quality care to patients in multiple settings including Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical, Rehabilitation, Assisted Living, and Long-Term Care. She brings a fresh approach that participants can relate to and bring back to their work practice to implement and grow in their career. She is excited to share her real-world experience to inspire and influence healthcare providers.

Ronda Pennekamp, RN, BSN, is the Nursing Clinical Development Educator at the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. Ronda infuses energy and enthusiasm into every aspect of her work with the RWHC team. With Bachelor’s degrees in both Education and Nursing, she brings a unique blend of knowledge and nursing hands-on experience in rural healthcare. Ronda’s passion for learning, growth, and encouraging others to embrace new challenges shines through in every workshop she leads, as well as every interaction she participates in. Her engaging, dynamic and approachable style, paired with her “teaching-first” mindset, creates an inspiring environment where participants feel empowered to grow and succeed.

Program Description:
Join us for an interactive and informative workshop designed to empower healthcare professionals with a thorough understanding of diabetes and its management. This comprehensive session will cover essential topics including: pathophysiology, treatment & medication management, hypo and hyperglycemia, wound care essentials, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations.
This workshop is ideal for healthcare providers seeking to improve diabetes outcomes through education and supportive care. Participants will leave with actionable strategies and renewed confidence to take control of patients with diabetes to live a healthier, fuller life.
Program Objectives- Participants will learn to:
- Understand the pathophysiology of Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, and gestational diabetes
- Compare and contrast treatment approaches, including oral medications, insulin therapies, and GLP-1
- Educate patients on medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, skin integrity, and carb counting
- Distinguish between acute complications (DKA, HHNS) and chronic complications (neuropathy and nephropathy)
- Support patients in recognizing symptoms of hypo- and hyperglycemia and taking action.
- Recognize how fluid and electrolyte imbalances interact with insulin therapy.
