Whether you are a new grad or an experienced Emergency Department nurse, caring for the pregnant patient can be terrifying. Consider the following questions. Are you an Emergency Department nurse who has little or no experience to the Obstetrics Department (OB)? Does the thought of an emergent delivery of a baby in the ED frighten you? Are you working for an organization that does not have an Obstetrical Department? Are you an ED nurse who wants to learn more about emergent OB conditions that you might present to your ED? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this on-line workshop is designed with you in mind!
During this 9-module course we will explore emergency care for the pregnant patient, integrating real life case studies, overviewing OB/Newborn assessments/emergencies along with prioritizing interventions needed in each situation. This comprehensive course is designed to provide the ED nurse with a solid foundation of core principles and standards of care and practice. This workshop will ready the nurse to care for a variety of conditions that could present the Emergency Department including trauma, emergent delivery of a newborn, placental abruption, uterine rupture, pre-eclampsia/HELLP Syndrome, post-partum hemorrhage, just to name a few.
Review of the hands-on skills and priority interventions for the following emergencies: o Prolapsed cord o Emergency delivery/initial steps of neonatal resuscitation o Shoulder dystocia
