Being Intentional in 2022

Being Intentional in 2022

Truth is, intentions equals results… but requires us to take action steps. Some have heard of the saying energy flows where attention goes. Intentions require attention. This time of year, many set resolutions saying things like… “this is the year I am going to lose weight and get healthy”, “I intend to spend more time on personal growth”, “I intend to stop procrastinating and wasting time”, “I am going to declutter my house”, or whatever the case may be. Many start off strong, only to fall back to habitual patterns which often leads our thinking back to “it is what it is” or whatever belief pattern or mind justification that surfaces. Beware of the thinking patterns as resolutions or our intentions are often derailed by the end of January.

Intentions are created from the place of hope, hope that things will be different but often things remain the same. When the “sameness” continues despite good intentions assess whether you are taking enough action and ask how is this situation serving me? What am I afraid of? All the answers are inside of you if you are willing to look deep enough. Perhaps the answer is that you really have no intention to change and you are comfortable with how things are. Fear of the unknown and the discomfort of change are often lurking subconsciously driving your ego to stay stuck in your current status.

Implementing change is hard and often brings up resistance. We need a whole lot of courage to stay the course and push through this resistance. It is important to talk about insanity here for a minute. We have already identified that intentions are created from the place of hope. We can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. This is the definition of insanity in layman’s terms. We must take action, push through the resistance and dig into a deeper awareness if we want something different for our lives.

Sometimes our intentions feel too big, too overwhelming. If this is the case, chunk it down into more doable baby steps. Take those baby steps every day. Small steps can add up to big change over the upcoming year. Remember intention equals results when backed by actions. What steps do you need to start taking for your intentions to come to life?

Tips
  • Write down your intentions and share it with at least 3 other people. Ask for help and support if you need an accountability partner.
  • Chunk it down to small steps that will create big change over the year.
  • Pick a focus phrase for the year. My favorites: be intentional, be courageous, and take risks daily. Once you pick your phrase post it everywhere so you are reminded and inspired by it daily.
  • Be kind and gentle when you fall back into your habitual patterns. Catch yourself quickly and recommit to your intention(s).
  • Make sure to reward yourself when you have breakthroughs and are making progress.

What do you want to be more intentional about in 2022? What are you waiting for?

Intentions equals results but only if you stay in action toward your desires! May all your intentions come to life as you journey through the year!

Happy New Year!
