Target Audience
Healthcare supervisors and managers--both experienced and new in their role, clinical or non-clinical
Program Description
You want to be a strong fiscal steward for your organization, leading your teams to contribute positively to financial securities. But you didn’t have a lot of (or any!) business classes before becoming a supervisor. Even if you did, healthcare finance lingo and its complexities don’t exactly follow the same practices as traditional business finance. Yet, to be effective in your role, you’re accountable to understand and respond to monthly outcomes reports for your department(s), develop budgets, determine staffing levels, and advocate for capital equipment needs. Where do you start?
Without doubt, hospital finance IS complex. You may not have the interest to dedicate the years it could take to develop full knowledge. But you CAN spare one day to build foundational awareness and strengthen your confidence with the basics of hospital finance. Join this interactive and practical application workshop to lay the introductory layer of understanding. It’ll even be fun! (Yes…Finance and Fun can exist in the same sentence!)
Program Objectives – Participants will learn to:
- Achieve basic understanding of Revenue Cycle elements
- Understand influencing factors to hospital net income
- Identify when to be alert to monthly financial variances
- Consider 6 areas to review when developing departmental budgets
- Articulate the difference between Paid and Worked FTE’s
Consider Participation in this Workshop if the Following is
Mostly True for You:
- When others speak about hospital finance measures, your eyes glaze over and it feels like they’re speaking Greek (and you don’t speak Greek…)
- You are committed to improving your department’s contributions to the organization’s bottom line but all you see is a sea of numbers
- Contemplating the complexities of the hospital’s Revenue Cycle is like watching the spinning cycle on your washer at home—it makes you a little dizzy
- You’re not sure how to calculate FTE’s. (What are FTE’s anyway? FTE stands for Fairly Traumatic Expenses…right???)
- You want to learn the basics of Critical Access Hospital finance without misery
- You know the Finance team is made of great people and smart individuals who care about the hospital as much as you do. You don’t want to dread talking with them and having to hide the fact you don’t understand what they’re saying or asking for. You want to work with them as a team to achieve goals together.
- You get lost trying to understand the many ways hospitals are paid and the various types of payers that influence revenues
