With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, LOVE is in the air whether it is LOVE for self, LOVE for your family, LOVE for your relationships including significant others and friends. LOVE makes the “world-go-round”.
LOVE is all that we knew when we were born.
But then we became domesticated into the earthly expectations, disappointments, fears and emotional pain. It is time to re-tap into LOVE, pure LOVE.
But, with that being said, truth is, LOVE is hard to come by these days amongst the grief of the ongoing pandemic/respiratory illnesses, the divisiveness that remains evident in our country, the acuity of our patients, along with the staffing challenges, escalating turnover, staff out because of illness or on family medical leave for whatever reason. This list could go on and on.
It is important to circle back to the reason you became a nurse or are becoming a nurse or why you chose to work in healthcare in the first place. We need to keep that passion/our “why” front and center in everything we do. We need to keep tapping into our heart center the place that holds our desire to spread LOVE and to be of service day every day.
The desire to make a difference in the lives of others is all about LOVE. It is all about being of service to our fellow human beings. The more LOVE you give out the more LOVE you will receive in return.
How do you reboot the desire to spread more LOVE in your day-to-day interactions? The answer will be different with each one of you and only you hold the answer to that question.
What I do know is that LOVE is seen and felt through kindness, compassion, listening deeply, meeting people where they are at, avoiding judgment, and choosing to deeply connect with our fellow human beings. LOVE is seen and felt in how we choose to show up each day. Do we shine our light and let our heart be seen and heard each day...or not?
If it is hard to tap into the heart or LOVE space because of exhaustion/burnout/frustration, you will need to tap into your higher power to fill your LOVE bucket and to gain patience when needed. There is a power greater than you, however you define it. Just know that your higher power has unlimited LOVE available. Call on it to fill your heart when you need it. I know I have had to tap into it several times these past few years.
Everybody, including your bosses, your colleagues, your patients, their families, our families need an extra dose of LOVE right now. So you need to bring it in every moment, in every experience, in every encounter you have each day. Spread the LOVE.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
