Choices: So Many, Many Choices

Choices: So Many, Many Choices

The choices you make today impact your tomorrows. Humans make a 1000 choices or more in a day. Unfortunately, many of these choices are made on your brain’s automatic pilot. Now is the time to become more intentional with your choices. This is especially true about your choices to refuel, nurture and care for yourself. When you do so you will have more of yourself to give to others.

Many of my nursing colleagues are running on fumes and wondering why they are feeling so burned out. The answer is in the choices to refuel or lack thereof.

When being intentional with choices it is important to recognize operating belief patterns beneath the surface that may derail your efforts to refuel. For example one of my personal belief patterns is that there is no time to play and have fun until the work is done. Guess what? The work is never done!

To this end, I have had to write a new belief pattern that I have to consciously think about. I now give myself permission to fight back against the habitual belief pattern and allow myself time to just be playful and do something I enjoy. It helps to keep fuel in my heart’s gas tank.

Let’s take a couple of minutes to reflect on some of the choices that are daily options toward refueling:

Let’s take a couple of minutes to reflect on some of the choices that are daily options toward refueling:

Self-care: exercise, nutritious food, and adequate sleep
• Allowing fun and spontaneity
• Taking 100% accountability for the status of your life
• Saying “NO” to negotiable events and activities in life
• Implementing self-compassion
• Being helpful and offering support to others
• Choosing to speak up or speak your truth
• To take steps toward your goals
• To choose to be proactive vs. reactive
• Being mindful and enjoying the moment of now
• Being intentional with breathing several times a day
• Implementing a stress management plan
• Exercising a gratitude practice
• Extending forgiveness toward self and others
• Living life from the foundation of love vs. hate
• Celebrating accomplishments
• Experiencing growth through all situations, even the difficult ones
• To admit mistakes
• Energy we choose to give out
• Choice to step out of unhealthy patterns/behaviors
• Daily attitude-how we show up every day
• Executing personal boundaries

Choices do matter. Every single choice matters.

So many, many choices can feel daunting and overwhelming. If this is the case for you, pick just one thing and implement it until it becomes a habit, then come back to the list and make another choice. Every single choice does matter.

You are just one choice away from transforming and refueling your life. Choose wisely!
