Program Description:

Empathy can only be portrayed with others when compassion is at the center of the effort.  And compassion can’t exist when judgment prevails.  The trouble is, we are all fallible.  We are naturally wired to judge, which hinders the purity of compassion and obstructs our ability to display authentic empathy.  When we are at our best, such compassion and empathy promote improved relationships with coworkers and better care delivery for patients we serve.

In this workshop, we’ll dig into compassion and empathy, as well as explore what’s behind our judgments and biases and how to lead instead with curiosity.  Increasing our understanding and awareness of each allows elevation of our capacity for compassion and leads us to follow the 5 Steps of Empathy more completely.

Program Objectives – Participants will learn to:

  1. Define compassion and understand its connection with empathy
  2. Increase self-awareness of how our judgments and biases impact compassion
  3. Learn a 5-step method for sharing empathy

Consider taking this workshop if the following are mostly true for you:

  • You wish to strengthen your service to and relationship with others—both patients and coworkers
  • You feel as though you’re experiencing compassion fatigue and need a little refueling
  • You’re interested in learning more about compassion and empathy
  • You know how important it is to deliver great service to others; you’re looking for ways to do that better
