Internet service is available through the RWHC Data Network. It is designed to provide outstanding performance, featuring comprehensive layered security.
What makes the RWHC security model different?
RWHC is committed to providing security beyond what is normally offered by other Internet service providers (ISPs). ISPs typically shift the responsibility of security to the user. The RWHC model provides firewall protection, mail filtering and web filtering. RWHC will serve as your partner when it comes to regulatory compliance for patient privacy and electronic media security.
The RWHC security model
Firewall Strategy
RWHC has a two tiered firewall approach. The first tier protects all of the resources housed behind RWHC’s connection to the Internet. The intent is to protect the shared resources of the Cooperative as well as the members’ networks. The second tier is the firewall that resides at each participant’s facility.
Mail Filtering Strategy
Virus filtering - E-mail is a conduit for viruses, worms, and “Trojans” – an undetectable form of virus. RWHC has implemented a system for blocking potential problems by isolating these types of files.
SPAM filtering - It is estimated that 60 – 80% of SMTP traffic is SPAM. RWHC can provide facilities with a SPAM filter customized for their email domain. SPAM can be either quarantined and held, or tagged as SPAM and delivered.
Web Filtering Strategy
The Internet provides access to more information than we could have imagined five years ago. Unfortunately, some of the sites that exist on the Internet contain objectionable material. In order to protect our organizations against liability due to inappropriate Internet material, RWHC provides a solution that blocks access to offensive sites. In addition, reports can be generated that identify web sites accessed by individual users.
