RWHC is pleased to offer this two-day Nurse Preceptor Workshop at the RWHC office in Sauk City on:
- August 24 & 25, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- February 22 & 23, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- August 29 & 30, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This two-day training workshop presented by Cella Janisch-Hartline, RN, BSN, Nurse Consultant, and Jo Anne Preston, MS, Workforce & Organizational Development Manager, RWHC, builds skills around aspects of the nurse preceptor role and provides opportunities for practice and feedback related to the essential skill set for preceptors. The work is based on competencies for the nurse preceptor and includes simulation learning. Preceptors must attend both days.


| Workshop Objectives |
On Day One, preceptors will learn to:
- Define the nurse preceptor role
- Determine key elements of effective professional role modeling
- Identify socialization process of new graduates
- Create a professional integration plan
- Assess learning needs of the preceptee
- Plan effective learning for the preceptee
- Identify generational perspectives/needs
- Examine personality preferences and innate differences
- Foster an effective learning climate
- Address specific learning behaviors of preceptees
On Day Two, preceptors will learn to:
- Implement effective feedback techniques
- Teach technical skills
- Promote critical thinking, reflection, learning from practice
- Demonstrate communication skills to resolve conflict
- Recognize behaviors that constitute lateral violence
- Evaluate performance
- Respond to challenging learners
- Teach techniques in real-time:
- – Teaching in the moment: The One-Minute Preceptor
- – Teaching after the moment: End of shift debriefing and critical incidence debriefing
