Cella Janisch-HartlineRN, BSN, PCC Professional Certified Coach, is the Nursing & Leadership Development Senior Manager​ at the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. Cella brings her experience from over 40 years in various rural healthcare leadership positions to her work as she combines her passion for nursing, leadership, coaching and teaching. Named the 2018 Outstanding Educator through the National Rural Health Association, she engages healthcare participants across the country with her humorous, action-oriented and compassionate approach. Cella writes a monthly blog about Refueling Your Heart.

Erin Smital

Erin SmitalRN, is the Nursing Professional Development Educator, Nurse Residency Coordinator and Lean Residency Coordinator at the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. Along with being an RN, Erin brings forward years of experience in various leadership roles in and out of healthcare. In addition to developing and presenting numerous leadership and nursing focused workshops, she also provides training in de-escalation as a Certified Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Instructor.

Sarah EwersBSN, RN, is the Nursing Clinical Development Educator for Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. Sarah earned her Bachelor in Science of Nursing through Viterbo University and continues to hold herself accountable for multiple hours of continuing education. She brings a wealth of experience in providing quality care to patients in multiple settings including Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical, Rehabilitation, Assisted Living, and Long-Term Care. She has a fresh approach that participants can relate to and bring back to their work practice to implement and grow in their career.

Ronda infuses energy and enthusiasm into every aspect of her work with the RWHC team. With Bachelor’s degrees in both Education and Nursing, she brings a unique blend of knowledge and nursing hands-on experience in rural healthcare. Ronda’s passion for learning, growth, and encouraging others to embrace new challenges shines through in every workshop she leads, as well as every interaction she participates in. Program Description:

Are you a new charge nurse or team supervisor? Or do you aspire to become one someday? Are you a charge nurse or team supervisor who needs to be inspired to do the job more effectively? Are you a newer nursing team leader or manager? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then this boot camp is designed just for you. During this 3-day boot camp we will explore many aspects of nursing supervision in rural healthcare. Throughout this interactive boot camp, participants will be engaged in activities including partner and group discussions, self-reflection, role playing of effective communication/conflict management techniques, problem-solving case studies and collaborative sharing of ideas. Program Objectives – Participants will learn to​:

  • Define and role model professionalism, respect, teamwork and leadership
  • Learn the 10 characteristics of being a servant leader
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of stress and identify at least two ways of reducing stress
  • Decide on at least three personal values that will mold their leadership foundation
  • Explore differences in personalities and generational views
  • Build team trust
  • Recognize the power of choices
  • Determine key elements of effective coaching techniques
  • Differentiate behavior vs. judgment feedback while role playing through some common issues
  • Understand role in developing a retention culture on the unit
  • Review communication styles and demonstrate assertive communication techniques
  • Practice having crucial conversations skillfully
  • Identify common communication pitfalls
  • Examine emotional intelligence to enhance unit relationships
  • Reflect on self-management of emotions
  • Learn tips and techniques to deal with disruptive behaviors
  • Participate in conflict resolution skills through role play
  • Learn John Kotter’s 8 critical components of change, supporting change in the department and organization
  • Acknowledge the role of "peer today boss tomorrow" concepts
  • Enhance critical thinking within the team
  • Supports and facilitate the onboarding initiatives of new team members
  • Identify common challenges and strategies of competency development, validation of and measuring performance outcomes
  • Verbalize effective delegation strategies
  • Enhance time management and/or organizational skills
  • Demonstrate leadership by holding self and others accountable
  • Examine fiduciary responsibilities/stewardship in the unit, i.e. staffing, budget considerations
  • Identify at least four tips for preparing, conducting and following up on performance evaluations
