Target Audience:
Individuals serving in an Administrative or Departmental Assistant role within the health care or associated environment
Program Description:
You know it—the responsibilities of an Administrative Assistant are complex. You’re required to possess a wide variety of skills to satisfy the demands of the work and the ability to interact with a multitude of different personalities, while often needing to meet the expectations of more than one direct supervisor. Not only do you accept requests for assistance with work demands from others, you may need to request support of others as well. Much of the work is done behind the scenes with infrequent opportunity for full acknowledgement of the value of the effort. In short, it’s tough work!
If you hold an Administrative Assistant role, come power up and polish off the skills needed to keep you energized and effective. Join this workshop to learn more about how to respond to different personalities, serve others well while establishing priorities for assigned and requested responsibilities, determine your work capacity, assertively set respectful boundaries with others, delegate tasks to others, speak into your needs, and bring value to your work.
Program Objectives – Participants will learn to:
- Identify clues to personalities and modify approaches accordingly to promote effective communication
- Determine work capacity and priorities, gaining control of the ‘to-do’ list
- Hold brave and assertive conversations to set boundaries and clarify expectations
- Respond respectfully to resistance and confrontation
- Employ delegation techniques when making requests of others
- Use the Coaching Model to offer feedback and seek appreciation
Consider taking this workshop if the following are mostly true for you:
- Your position is one of administrative support for your department or organization
- You report to more than one supervisor throughout the course of your day
- You need to build skills to more effectively manage your workload, much of which is influenced by the needs of others
- You worry what will happen if you decline to accept all the work asked of you
- When you need others to complete their portion of the work tasks, you find yourself chasing them to get the work completed
- You feel your role has more value than the credit it’s given, but you’re uncomfortable assertively asking for recognition
