Throughout the day, several obstetrical emergencies will be reviewed along with describing signs and symptoms and priority interventions needed/required; these include, but are not limited to: pre-eclampsia/HELLP syndrome, obstetrical hemorrhage situations, shoulder dystocia, emergency delivery, uterine trauma and premature labor. In addition, knowledge learned will be applied and integrated into several simulated case studies.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES – Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the anatomy and physiology characteristics/considerations to each identified emergency discussed
  2. Review obstetrical emergency situations to include (but not limited to): pre-eclampsia/HELLP syndrome, obstetrical hemorrhage (placenta previa, abruptio placenta, post-partum hemorrhage), shoulder dystocia, emergency delivery, prolapsed cord, uterine trauma and premature labor.
